1st Potsdam Choir Festival – A New Sound in the City

1. Potsdamer Chorfestival

On 28 September 2025, Potsdam gained a new musical facet: the first Potsdam Choir Festival, in which we were privileged to participate as a choir.

On Sunday, 28 September, we were part of this special event with the International Choir Potsdam. For us, it was another highlight of the year after our anniversary concert, and we are proud to have been involved. The festival brought together choirs from across the region to sing together, exchange ideas and to let all the different voices of Potsdam voices sing out.

The Potsdam Choir Festival sees itself as a platform for choirs of all kinds: from a cappella ensembles and mixed choirs to youth and intergenerational choirs. The aim is to showcase musical diversity, bring choirs together and to celebrate our communities. Workshops, concerts and singing together resulted in a lively programme that appealed to both choir enthusiasts and interested listeners.

The fact that Potsdam now hosts a choir festival is a real asset for the city and its music scene. It opens up many new opportunities for choirs, musicians and audiences.

The benefits of the festival include:

  • Greater visibility for choirs from Potsdam and the surrounding region.
  • New musical input and inspiration for the city and its cultural life.
  • Voices connect people and create encounters.
  • Knowledge transfer in workshops and creative exchanges.

We are delighted that this first festival has laid the foundation for what we hope will be many more musical encounters.

As a choir, we had the honour of performing as part of the programme.

For us, it was not only a concert, but also an opportunity to get to know other choirs and share our joy of singing. The day also gave us valuable musical experiences and many wonderful encounters with singers from the region.

We are particularly proud that our choir director, Eugen Zigutkin, was actively involved in organising the festival. His commitment ranged from being involved in planning the programme, general logistics and organising, to conducting on-site workshops such as beat boxing.

Many of our choir members also lent a hand on the day, whether it was with setting up, looking after the choirs or helping with organisational tasks in the background.

After the festival, a lot of positive feedback about our performance reached us. Many people expressed an interest in singing with us. Our piece ‘Gede Nibo’ in particular thrilled many listeners so much that they could hardly resist clapping, even though this was not actually allowed. Moments like these convey the special atmosphere of the festival and show how much our music touched people. Another choir festival is already being planned for next year. Hopefully, it will become a regular fixture in the future. We will know more in the coming months, so stay tuned!
